Huntingdon Borough Tree Commission

Thank you for your interest in enhancing our town’s beauty and environment by planting a street tree!

The Tree Commission offers a program where residents can request a tree to be planted along the street in front of their property. This shared-cost initiative allows homeowners to split the expense of the tree with the Borough, who will contribute 50% of the purchase. (The owner’s share of the cost is typically between $100–$225, depending on the species. Planting and mulching are free.) Please review the conditions for planting and provide the requested contact information to submit your application, and we will be in touch.

Please keep in mind the following:

  1. You must be the owner of the property where the tree is to be planted.
  2. No street tree may be planted less than 35 feet from a street corner, as measured from the corner curb, neither may a tree be planted closer than 15 feet to a fire hydrant or within 15 feet of a designated driveway.
  3. No street tree may be planted that, at maturity, will seriously impact utility wires or supporting poles, or where the root system is likely to compromise underground water or sewer transmission lines or other utilities. If the planting site is beneath utility wires, we will help you select an appropriate species.
  4. The Borough may be able to cut a new hole in an existing sidewalk to accommodate a tree. The minimum sidewalk width is 3 feet, with 5 feet preferred.
