Chief of Police, Charles T. Streighitff

Bio: 

Chief of Police, Charles T. Streighitff has over 24 years of experience in law enforcement in two police departments serving as patrolman, narcotics/gangs investigator, dui task force coordinator/grant writer, criminal investigator, instructor, child forensic interviewer, supervisor, and Chief of Police. Chief Streightiff is dedicated to excellence and integrity with extreme emphasis on teamwork which is essential for success.

Chief Charles T. Streightiff is a 1997 Graduate of the Huntingdon Area High School and a 2001 Graduate of the Pennsylvania State Unversity, where he obtained a B.A. in Administration of Justice and a Minor in Sociology.

From 1997 to 2001, Streightiff also worked as a seasonal Park Ranger for the US Army Corps of Engineers – Raystown Lake.

Chief Streightiff would continue his education and training at the University of Maryland – Maryland Police Corps in 2001.  This 24 week residential Police Academy was overseen by the Baltimore City Police Department and the Prince George Police Department. 

From 2001 to 2007, Chief Streightiff served as a police officer and detective with the Hagerstown City Police Department.  

Chief Streightiff returned to his home town in 2007, and accepted employment with the Huntingdon Borough Police Department.  Since being employed with the Huntingdon Borough Police Department, Streightiff has served in the capacities of patrol officer, detective, corporal, and currently as Chief of Police.   

Chief Charles T. Streightiff is committed to victim advocacy work, which is clearly defined through his development of the Sexual Response Protocol for Huntingdon County (S.A.R.T.), strict protocol for Missing and Exploited Children, the establishment of policies for investigations of crimes against children, and numerous community outreach initiatives (Coffee with a Cop, National Night Out, training, etc.).  Chief Streightiff was instrumental in establishing a Mental Health Co-Responder program for the Huntingdon Borough Police Department and is the Founder of the Huntingdon County Endangered and At Risk Youth Response Team (H.E.A.R.T.).  Chief Streightiff meets regularly with children in trauma therapy to assist in recovery and treatment.

Chief Streightiff serves on numerous committees and boards to better serve and represent the Borough Huntingdon and its residents.  Some of those committees and boards include: Juniata Valley Tri-County Drug and Alcohol Commission Board of Directors, The Abuse Network Board of Directors, HEALPA, Huntingdon County Criminal Justice Advisory Board, Huntingdon County Prevention Network, Coordinated Community Response Team (Juniata College), Huntingdon County Multi-Disciplinary Team for Crimes Against Children, Elder Justice Task Force, and the IUP Police Academy Advisory Board.

In 2023 Chief Streightiff was named as a Blue Ribbon Champion for Safe Kids by the Pennsylvania Family Support Alliance.  Chief Streightiff is the first and only Law Enforcement Officer in Pennsylvania to receive this award.  

In 2024, Chief Streightff received the John A. Zottola Mental Health & Justice Award from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. Chief Streightiff is the first and only Law Enforcement Officer in Pennsylvania to receive this award.  

Chief Streightiff is committed to the safety and growth of the Huntingdon Borough Community.  

Chief Streightiff has written and secured grants totaling over $500,000 for the Huntingdon Borough Police Department.  Those grants have provided funding for a new secure and state of art IT infrastructure/server system at the Police Department, Body Worn Cameras, new mobile and portable radios, drones, additional equipment, and training.

Chief Streightiff has presented to various groups, organizations, political leaders of the Pennsylvania General Assembly and the US Congress. Chief Streightiff has also presented at seminars and conferences on topics such as: Domestic/Interpersonal Violence, Elder Scams and Abuse, Mandated Reporting – An Investigator’s Point of View, Child Abuse, the Sexual Assault Investigative Process, Trauma-Informed Care For Law Enforcement and other professions, Our Kids: Trauma-Informed Collaboration, H.E.A.R.T.,  and Online Safety/Awarenes for both youth and adults.
